Taking shape

We have been very lucky to have a very dry week last week, which has made us really crack on and back on schedule. Profusion have finished shaping all the bunkers with just drainage, liner and turfing to be done. They still have 4 tees to construct on 1st,8th, 12th and 17th. We are also altering the 11th green this week and putting a slight mound in the middle of the green at the back. We will be stripping part of the green and raising up in conjuction with the mound at the back of the green, to add more thought to your shot in.

Pathways have been finished with just soiling up of the edges and raising of areas to be done.

Irrigation only have 2 more fairways and 1 green left to pipe, but still have a lot of wiring and finishing to be done on all 9 holes.

    Hi Andy,
    Course looks great so far.
Was wondering how you were planning on managing sand depths in the new bunkers due to the rubber Tarmac being hard and creating all manner of problems when bouncing off the surface. I know that the bunker on the chipping green which has this lining is very shallow and no use in some areas.
Very interested to hear your reply.
    Keep up the good work

The bunker liner is made up of just shredded rubber tyres with a resin over the top, not a tarmac like some golf courses have done. The sand will be 4 inches deep but compacted down to make a firm but consistent playing surface. We will be full raking bunkers 3/4 times a week and the staff will take a marked pole around with them to check bunker levels in the bunkers. The bunker liner i have chose is the best on the market, which without we would end up with stones, weeds and soil contamination. Since we have put the liner in we have had no wash outs or flooding in the chipping bunker. The reason the chipping bunker is a bit shallow is because we have put a trail sand in there which comes from Scotland (expensive), and have run out untill next week when all the new 500tons comes in. The chipping bunker gets a lot of play with many practicing in one spot and taking 25 shots at a time, resulting in quite a lot of sand leaving the bunker. Once we have the new sand in, the chipping bunker will be topped up weekly.

If you ever want to look at the liner or go through how it is installed and the finished surface, please feel free to get in contact with me and i can show you.

      Regards

      Andy

Hi Andy, Have been chomping at the bit to get back playing but what an incentive I have now with the new layout. Loving the look of it.
I have concerns though with the concrete buggy paths. Some look a little too long off the tees and possibly infringing on play. Holes 7,8,9,10,11and 18..(so far) come to mind. Will those paths also be edged with plantation?
Also, are there new Ladies tees sprouting up on holes..1,17 and 18?
    Cheers Debbie

I hope you like the new layout. We have tried our best to hide the pathways as much as possible and once the grass has started to grow on the edges and carries, it should hide them even more. We have had to make the pathways a bit longer because of the wear of the buggies and to also keep wear and mud build up on golfers shoes when walking through the carries in the winter time. Next time you are at the club i can come and see you to explain more.

There are new ladies tees at 1, 17, 18 but will still be keeping the ladies tee on 17th.

      Regards

      Andy
